Due to growth, we are seeking a Tool Room Supervisor for a key role within our team. The Tool Room Supervisor we seek will drive the operational success of our tool and die department, focusing on Team Leadership, Quality Assurance, Order Management & Workflow and Process Optimization. In this position, success is defined by achieving project milestones, team collaboration, proactive problem-solving, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Position Responsibilities include:
· Team Leadership & Development:
o Lead, coordinate, and support a team of highly skilled tool and die makers, machinists, and CNC operators.
o Assign tasks based on team members' strengths and experience, fostering a collaborative and productive environment.
o Provide hands-on guidance and technical expertise, leading by example on the shop floor.
o Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback for continuous improvement.
o Foster a culture of respect and open communication.
· Order Management & Workflow:
o Lead tool build projects, establishing timelines, tracking progress using Excel & Gantt charts to ensure on-time build and delivery.
o Coordinate with sales, customers, and design teams to ensure clear communication and alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
o Proactively address potential roadblocks and implement solutions to maintain project momentum.
o Purchase materials needed for production build
· Process Improvement & Quality:
o Utilize 5S and Lean Principles to identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
o Maintain preventive maintenance schedules.
o Ensure all tools and dies meet design specifications and quality standards, utilizing inspection equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges.
o Implement and enforce quality control measures, collaborating with the Quality Supervisor to track and improve production processes.
· Safety & Compliance:
o Ensure compliance with all safety standards and OSHA regulations, promoting a safe working environment.
o Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance and safety inspections.
o Participate in safety committees.
· Scheduling & Resource Management:
o Manage resources, such as materials, equipment, and tooling, to optimize production and minimize waste.
o Work with the Senior Design Engineer to set priorities on jobs.
o Control the flow of production, costs and hours, establish schedules, and write necessary reports and records.
The ideal candidate possesses:
· A proven track record of 5+ years in a tool and die or machining environment, with lead, supervisory or project management related experience.
· Strong technical skills in tool and die making, machining, and CNC operations.
· Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
· A proactive and problem-solving mindset, with a commitment to continuous improvement.
· Demonstrated project management experience, including the use of Gantt charts or similar systems.
· Experience with Mastercam, or similar CAD software, and ability to read CAD drawings.
